A while ago, I started signing off emails and messages with the phrase above. Why? I discovered that I spent a lot of time counting the days till some big event in my life or simply trying to end a day that was not going as I would have liked it to. I didn’t want to do that anymore and I didn’t want others to do that too (Also, I was trying to be cool and unconventional). When was the last time you stopped to marvel at the wonder of each day? I mean the day itself or the things in the day.
This is the day the Lord has made.
Psalm 118:24 (NLT)
We will rejoice and be glad in it
I used to roll my eyes at people who “found joy” in every little thing because some things just don’t have joy and some days are tough. In addition, I didn’t think it was possible to do so. However, I’m starting to understand that maybe they chose to look for joy and that’s why they “found it”. I know this can be especially hard to do when painful things are present and sometimes we don’t even want to do it. I want to submit to you that you teach yourself to intentionally look out for wonderful people and things around you and appreciate them till it becomes a habit.
Teach us to use wisely all the time we have
Psalm 90:12 (CEV)
After my plea, you might still refuse to intentionally enjoy the rest of this day even (because I don’t know you or cannot imagine what you’re going through). But I have to ask, how has that been working out for you? Because I think you require more energy to complete simple tasks if you’re enduring things, you struggle to see opportunities around you, and you probably have regrets of times in the past where you just breezed through days waiting for a big moment.
Final Thoughts
I believe God created each person with a creative mind so I encourage you to use it to find at least one pleasurable thing in your day. It is a new habit to form and if you try and feel that you’re still struggling, ask God for help. I should also add that encouraging (or challenging) people is one of the things that I find pleasure in so by taking time out of your day to read this, you are adding to the joys of my day. I truly appreciate you. Enjoy the rest of your day!
Based on one of your senses, what can you enjoy right now?
