A Body-based Prayer Guide

I believe in the power of prayer and when it comes to praying related to the body, I often find myself only praying for healing when something is wrong. It’s not wrong to pray for healing because God has a desire to heal His people. However, there are other prayers you can offer regarding your body.

“I will give you back your health
    and heal your wounds”
says the Lord

Jeremiah 30:17 (NLT)

Here is a guide to help you pray for your body:

This guide lists some parts of the body and Bible verses to guide the prayers.

Thanksgiving: The human body is a complex system made up of so many moving parts and God put those parts together. Thank Him for the body as a whole. Start every point with thanksgiving for that part of the body.

    Thank You for making me
    so wonderfully complex!
        Your workmanship is marvelous
    —how well I know it.

    Psalm 139:14 (NLT)
    1. Hair –  Luke 21:18, Proverbs 16:31, Isaiah 46:4
    2. Eyes -Psalm 119:18, Job 29:15
    3. Nose – Psalm 150:6
    4. Ears – Mark 4:24, Proverbs 23:12, James 1:19
    5. Lips/Mouth – Psalm 119:171-172, Job 27:4, Ephesians 4:29
    6. Head/Mind – Proverbs 10:6, Philippians 4:8
    7. Heart – Matthew 12:35, Psalm 119:11
    8. Hands –  Ecclesiastes 9:10, Psalm 90:17, Proverbs 31:20
    9. Stomach –  Romans 14:20-21, Proverbs 23:1-3
    10. Feet – Ephesians 6:15, Psalm 18:33

Don’t you realize that your body
is the temple of the Holy Spirit,
who lives in you and was given to you by God?
You do not belong to yourself,
for God bought you with a high price.
So you must honor God with your body.

    1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)

As an example, for hair, the first verse is from Luke 21:18 which states, “But not a hair of your head will perish”. The prayer can go like this: God, I thank You for the promise in Your Word that not a hair of my head will perish and I hold on to that promise today. Even when I face trials or danger, I stand on this truth, knowing that You are my refuge and shield. I pray for the strength and health of my hair, knowing that every part of my body is precious in Your sight. Help me to walk in faith and free me from the worry and anxiety that can cause hair loss, and instead, fill me with Your peace. I pray all these in Jesus’ name. Amen!
