I believe in a Creator

I’ve asked myself if there is a God out there before as I’m sure most people, if not everyone, have at some point in their lives. There are many reasons for my belief in a Creator. One of them is that I was taught to do so.

These days, I’ve learnt that some people refuse to ‘teach’ their children what to believe as they want them to choose for themselves which sounds funny to me. Children are born with a clean slate and they don’t really have the knowledge of good and bad. They observe and form their moral codes based on what they see. The way I see it is this: If I believe something is right, won’t I want to pass that on to my child(ren)? If my parents didn’t teach me through their words and lifestyle about a just God who will judge us all, did they really believe that at all? If one refuses to teach one’s children, someone else will.

By faith we understand that the entire universe
was formed at God’s command,
that what we now see did not come
from anything that can be seen

Hebrews 11:3 (NLT)

I think I digressed a bit there, but it’s okay. Back to my topic, I am someone who loves patterns, systems, routines, and order. So what really struck a chord in my heart for the evidence of a Creator is the order I see around me.

Foggy morning. Picture taken from my balcony

Every day, without fail, there is morning and there is evening. The sun comes up every single day. This simple fact has helped us to develop months and years and keep records and celebrate birthdays and other anniversaries.

Another type of order I’ve observed is the chronological order of life. I have never met or heard of anyone who was born as an adult and this applies to even animals and plants. Everything goes through a growth process. I highly doubt there will ever be a time when that order will be reversed. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a fictional story.

For every house has a builder,
but the One who built everything is God.

hebrews 3:4 (NLT)
Final thoughts

I’m yet to come across a situation where chaos evolved into order without an external force at play. I have seen order devolve into chaos on its own though. The order of life has been sustained for millennia which tells me that there must be Someone who exists outside of time and space as we know it who created the order and is intentionally keeping it in place.

Which other examples of order have you observed? Do you believe in a Creator? If so, why? If not, why?

  1. I love this! God taught me over the summer that He has a “divine order” even in how He orchestrates my life. Very great thoughts here, Lovelyn!

  2. Interesting perspective.
Teaching is one step, believing is another. Can one be taught to believe? Yes, maybe a child! However, one can only teach an unbelieving son about the love of God. Accepting is the responsibility of the student/son/daughter. The process of believing is innate and congenital. You can only teach what you believe which is what parents do, and as sheep-like children, we believe even though we didn’t comprehend all, but as we grow older, it’s now our prerogative to believe what is taught. Unbelief is an adult sickness! May God help us all!

    • Thank you for your comment. The teaching is more what to believe than the belief itself. The likelihood of believing something is increased when one is exposed to it. It’s hard to believe what you’re unaware of. You are right in that everyone has to come to that point of conviction where they believe for themselves. I came to that point myself, but a seed was sown by my parents which possibly helped me arrive there sooner than I would have had I sought it out myself.
