Couples of the Bible: Adam and Eve

I want to start a new series where I highlight different couples mentioned in the Bible and share a lesson I have learnt from their story or a question raised from their story or both. Hopefully, this post will be the first of many and I hope you will join me on this journey.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.

Genesis 2:18-22 (NLT)

From the text above, you can see that God identified man’s need for a companion before man even discovered said need. Furthermore, you can see that God already knew there was not an existing helper created for man, hence His comment, ‘I will make a helper’.

The question that arises then is this: After God identified this need for a helper, why did He first bring the animals to Adam to name them before proceeding to create this suitable helper.

Here is my thought: I believe God wanted man to come to the point of realization for the need by himself before meeting it.

What do you think?

  1. I totally agree with you and in this particular case I also believe that God wanted man to feel the need to have a helper. Sometimes we don’t have to feel like we need something and God provides it. In Jeremiah 29v11: God said He already know the plans I have for you…
He is a good father and know all our needs
    Thank you for sharing
